Second Harvest of Clark, Champaign, and Logan Counties provided over 4.3 million meals to struggling families over the past year .   Over 2 million pounds of that was comprised of Ohio grown fruit and vegetables, wholesome meats, and dairy products .   As we focus on healthier eating habits, it is important that the food bank take a lead in providing the foods that families with limited means cannot afford, yet need to maintain a healthy lifestyle, which reduces medical costs.

Statistics still show that the majority of families seeking assistance do so 3 or less times a year. Most notably, over 65% have a family member working full time or numerous part time jobs to survive.   With decreasing SNAP benefits, pantries and soup kitchens have become the safety net for many families.   The real losers in this economy are the children and seniors that now have to depend on others to provide basic needs such as food.
